St. Mary's Hands EMU First Loss Of 2019

Box Score

EMU's field hockey team ran into a flock of Seahawks on Saturday, suffering a 7-1 road loss at St. Mary's (Md.).

It was the first loss of the year for the Royals (2-1) after back-to-back shutout wins.

St. Mary's got all the breaks early and scored on three of their first four shots. They had a 6-0 lead by the 42nd minute.

The women kept pushing and finally got on the board midway through the fourth quarter after earning a corner. Morgan Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) took a pass back from Brandy Troutman (Mountville, Va./Hempfield) and hit the cage in the 52nd minute.

Tricarico's goal was the only score St. Mary's (3-0) has allowed so far this season.

St. Mary's added one more late goal for the final margin.

Troutman had a busy day, collecting three defensive saves to go with her assist.

Eastern Mennonite will get another good non-conference test on Wednesday, hosting McDaniel College in Harrisonburg at 4:00pm. The Royals also host Juniata on Saturday on a special Field Hockey Alumni Day.
