EMU Statement of Purpose

Excellence—In All We Do
To be excellent requires discipline, commitment, grit, a growth mindset, a sense of purpose and responsibility, doing hard things, and a deep desire to be the best, do the best, and leave something the best we can. Being excellent allows no room for complacency; for “good enough” or making excuses. Being excellent means striving towards your best, with the possibility of failure, but remaining committed to investing our best efforts. Being excellent is a choice.

Royals choose Excellence – On the field, in the classroom, and in everyday life

  • Athletic Excellence: We expect to win. Our goal is consistent success—measured in steady improvement, wins, postseason appearances, and competitive pride.

  • Academic Excellence: We expect academic success and graduation. High retention, strong and meaningful degrees are the standard.GPAs.

  • Character Excellence: We expect our student-athletes to be both great and good—showing maturity, respect, and integrity in competition, in the classroom, and in the community.
Choosing Excellence

For SAs - In representing EMU as a student athlete, I am committing to the pursuit of excellence in all I do.

For Athletics Staff - We are committed to the continuous development of our student-athletes—seeking excellence in mind, body, and spirit.

Together, we strive to represent EMU with purpose, pride, and excellence in every arena of life.

EMU intercollegiate athletics also strives to fulfill the Vision, Mission, and Values of Eastern Mennonite University.
