Women Felled By Nationally-Ranked Mary Washington

Box Score

The upstart Royals ran into a steam train Wednesday afternoon, falling at No. 12 Mary Washington by a final of 7-0. EMU field hockey coach E.A. Jackson's alma mater didn't cut her team any slack, dropping Eastern Mennonite to 1-2 on the year.

The Eagles built up a 2-0 lead by the eighth minute and never looked back.

Courtney Ray (Yorktown, Va./York), who put in the game-winning stroke in Sunday's 2-1 OT thriller over Ferrum, led the Royals with two shots. Alyssa Gore (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) added one. Taylor Hensley (Orange, Va./Orange County) collected a defensive save. All three are part of EMU's impactful freshman class.

Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) started between the pipes and allowed four of the goals. Michelle Danek (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) gave up the final three but made eight saves in the process.

The women look to rebound quickly, playing two this weekend at the Wilson College Invitational in Chambersburg, Pa. EMU gets the host Phoenix Friday at 5:00pm, before taking on Bryn Mawr Saturday at 1:00pm.
