The rainy weather and the visiting Seahawks conspired to slow down EMU's field hockey women Saturday afternoon, as the Royals had their two-game winning streak broken.  St. Mary's College scored five minutes in en route to a 10-1 final score.

SMC made a habit out of sticking back rebounded shots, jumping to a 6-0 lead by the 21st minute.

The women rallied with six minutes left in the half after a corner.  After a powerful drive by Mariah Martin (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) was blocked, Mikayla Martin (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) grabbed the loose ball and dished it back to Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) for a quick cager.  It was Armstrong's fourth goal of the year.

The Seahawks kept their momentum in the second half, however, adding four more goals while thwarting EMU's handful of chances.  Regular goalie Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) had the best scoring chance of second.  Playing in the field, she made a streaking run up the left in the 64th minute, but SMC's goalie dove in and kicked the ball away.

EMU was out-shot 28-5.

Daley made five saves in between the pipes over the first 20 minutes, while backup Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had seven saves the rest of the way.

After eight non-conference games and a 2-6 record to start the year, the Royals finally get into Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.  They head to Bridgewater and play a 7:00pm game under the lights.
