Box Score The first 16 minutes dug a big hole for the EMU field hockey women, as the early deficit turned into a 7-0 defeat Tuesday afternoon against McDaniel in Harrisonburg.
With the Royals' lone All-ODAC returner, Melissa Cox (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield), missing the first 20 minutes of the game due to an academic commitment, the short-staffed roster showed some holes. Visiting McDaniel peppered 16 shots over that opening span of the contest, jumping to a 4-0 lead.
Eastern Mennonite settled down, but still trailed 5-0 at halftime.
Cox finally got the women's first attempt on cage in the 54th minute, followed by attempts from Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Janae Kauffman (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock), but the Royals were shut out.
Goalie Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) made 15 saves, one off her career high.
EMU heads north this weekend, playing at York (Pa.) this Saturday at 12:30pm.
