St. Mary's Powers Past Field Hockey In Second Half

Box Score

The host Seahawks broke a scoreless halftime tie with three goals in the final 35 to knock off EMU's field hockey women Saturday afternoon.  The Royals fall to 2-8 with the non-conference loss.  They prepare now to host the ODAC's preseason favorite, Lynchburg, Tuesday in Harrisonburg.

St. Mary's controlled the first half, but Eastern Mennonite's defense kept them at bay.  The Royals managed a single shot after a corner in the 30th minute, but the score was locked at 0-0 at the break.

Both attacks opened up in the second.  The Seahawks scored just 1:21 into the frame, and then added another four minutes later.  SMC added their final score in the 55th minute.

Over the next five minutes, the Royals got shots on goal from Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and Camille Williams (Media, Pa./Delaware County Christian), but St. Mary's defense kept them out of goal for the final shutout.

SMC ended up with a 21-6 advantage in shots, including 12-2 on goal.  Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) made nine saves for EMU.

Tuesday's start time with Lynchburg is at 6:30pm.  A special video webcast will be available on www.emuroyals.com for the ODAC clash.
