Box Score The field hockey women continued their tough non-conference schedule Saturday afternoon, playing a contest at Capital Athletic Conference power Mary Washington. The No. 19 Eagles had too much offense for Eastern Mennonite, handing the women a 7-1 loss in Fredericksburg, Va.
UMW was in high gear from the opening pass, dumping in three goals in the first 18 minutes. They led 7-0 before EMU found the cage. In the 54th minute, the Royals earned a corner and junior Brianna Kauffman (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) scored her first career goal with an assist from Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite).
Kauffman's tally turned out to be the only one for the Royals, despite shots from each Augsburger and Jenessa Derstine (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) which had to be kept out via a defensive save.
The Eagles had a 21-5 advantage in shots, and put 13 on goal compared to five for EMU. Goalie Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) had six saves between the pipes.
Now 1-7 overall, Eastern Mennonite hopes to earn a win in their first ODAC game next Thursday, when they head to Sweet Briar for a 4:30pm contest.
