Box Score Despite playing one of their best games this year, the EMU field hockey women came up short against nationally-ranked Mary Washington. The women held the No. 6 Eagles to their second-lowest scoring output of the year in a 4-0 decision.
The Royals gave up two goals midway through the first half, but kept the deficit at 2-0 most of the game. Even with limited offensive opportunities, Eastern Mennonite frustrated UMW's attack. The Eagles tacked on two more scores in the closing minutes for the final margin.
EMU had a handful of scoring chances, including a penalty corner, but couldn't get off a shot. Mary Washington had 19 shots on goal.
Mary Beth Danaher (Matoaca, Va./Matoaca) had 14 saves between the pipes, and Mandy Stowers (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) added a defensive save.
The Royals slide to 0-5 with the loss. Their next game is a rescheduled date at York on Thursday. Start time is 4:30pm.
