McDaniel Keeps Women From Non-Conference Win

Box Score

The EMU field hockey team was a step behind today in a 2-1 loss to McDaniel.  The decision leaves the Royals still in search of their first non-conference win despite being 2-0 in ODAC play.

The visiting Green Terror controlled the opening minutes and put in a goal in the 10th minute.  Eastern Mennonite regrouped and equalized just six minutes later.  A few touches after a penalty corner, Melissa Cox (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) set up Camille Williams (Media, Pa./Delaware County Christian), who rattled the cage for the second time this season.

The final 20 minutes of the half were scoreless, but McDaniel took control again in the opening of the second.  Less than five minutes into the final half, the visitors scored off a corner to go back ahead, 2-1.

Over the final 20 minutes of the contest, the Royals held possession much of the time, but were still held out of goal by the Green Terror back line.

EMU was out-shot 17-9, including 14-3 in shots on goal.  Mary Beth Danaher (Matoaca, Va./Matoaca) finished with nine saves.

Bethany Hench (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) had two defensive saves while Mandy Stowers (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) also had one.

Williams had two on the Royals' shots on goal.  Cox had the other.

The women are now 2-9 overall.  They will look to improve on their 2-0 conference mark on Tuesday with a road game at Randolph-Macon.
