Two Second Half Goals Seal Win For Lady Royals

Box Score

With the regular season winding down, the Eastern Mennonite field hockey team travelled to St. Mary's City, Maryland, for their final road game of the year. EMU and St. Mary's (Md.) played 44 minutes of scoreless action before the Lady Royals knocked in a pair of goals to take the win.

After the scoreless first half, senior Hailee Rittle (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) helped EMU take the lead. She picked up a loose ball outside the circle and fired it towards the near post where Nicole Bencsik (Telford, Pa./Souderton) was waiting to knock it in.

Seven minutes later, Linda Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) picked off a pass, split two defenders and beat the St. Mary's goalie to make it 2-0.

The Seahawks controlled the final 18 minutes, but the women kept them out of the cage to pick up the shutout.

EMU had a slight edge in shots at 9-8, but got quality looks and were up 8-3 in shots on goal. Goalie Becky Nolt (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) notched three saves for her third shutout of 2010.

The Lady Royals move to 9-6 with the non-conference victory. The women wrap up the regular season with two home contests against nationally ranked opponents, starting with Christopher Newport this Saturday at 1:00pm. EMU then closes with conference-leading Lynchburg on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
