HARRISONBURG, Va. – The athletes of EMU Track & Field were all over the place, competing in three different meets across two states. Most of the team stayed in Virginia, with a few distance runners racing on Friday at the Brant Tolsma Invitational at Liberty University and other event groups participating at the VMI Invitational in Lexington both Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, a small group of sprinters journeyed to the Buckeye State to go up against a deep field of DI, DII and DIII schools at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio.
Highlights (Brant Tolsma Invitational)
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 3000m Run: Jenna Weaver, a senior from Harrisonburg, set a new personal record, running 15 laps of the 200-meter track in 10:48.63 to finish 34th overall. Her fellow senior teammate Halie Mast also ran a personal best time of 11:04.69.
Highlights (SPIRE Midwest OPEN)
- SPRINTS
- 60m Dash: Nia Boyd ran a significant PR, crossing the line in a time of 8.74.
- 200m Dash: Angel David dashed her way to a time of 28.31, while Boyd clocked in at 30.60.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: David competed in both of the horizontal jumps, leaping 4.75m (15'-7") in the long jump.
- Triple Jump: David came home with a top-10 finish in the triple jump, ranking 10th with a best jump of 10.37m (34'-0.25").
Highlights (VMI Invitational)
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 800m Run: Elili Asefa finished 14th, running four laps of the indoor track in 2:30.26.
- Mile Run: Erin Loker and Asefa finished side-by-side in the mile, crossing the line in 5:41.67 and 5:41.71, respectively. Loker's time was a personal best.
- THROWS
- Weight Throw: Lily Gatesman represented the Royals in this event, throwing a mark of 9.35m (30'-8.25").
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will stick to just one meet next weekend, lacing up their racing shoes for the Bast-Cregger Multi Invitational, taking place on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 at Roanoke College in Salem, Va.
