WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – EMU Track & Field continued its progress through the outdoor track & field regular season slate, bringing athletes to the prestigious Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
For the women's team,
Aldora Tuilaepa provided the highlight of the weekend, breaking the EMU school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.00m (147'-7.5"). Tuilaepa edged out the previous school record of 44.01m (144'-5"), set by Alyssa Bane back in 2015.
Highlights
- SPRINTS
- 100m Hurdles: Faith Schultz ran a time of 17.05 to place 26th.
- 400m Hurdles: Angel David made her season debut in the 400mH, clocking in at a time of 1:14.60 for the taxing one-lap event.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: Schultz also spent some time in the field, leaping 4.58m (15'-0.25") on her best jump of the day.
- Triple Jump: David leapt 9.84m on her best triple jump effort of the weekend.
- THROWS
- Hammer: Tuilaepa's school record performance was good enough for ninth overall out of 31 throwers, beating out several Division I athletes. Lily Gatesman also threw in the hammer, setting a new personal record mark of 29.93m (98'-2.25").
- Javelin: Gatesman represented the Royals in the javelin with a throw of 19.96m (65'-5.75").
- Discus: Tuilaepa followed up her hammer throw school record with a mark of 33.80m (110'-11") to finish 18th, followed by Gatesman, who threw 25.87m (84'-10") to place 22nd.
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will host the EMU Heritage Invitational, their first home meet at the brand new on-campus track & field complex, on Friday, April 11. The first events of the day are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
