Mast, Tuilaepa Make The Podium to Lead Royal Women in Day 1 of ODACs

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The EMU Track & Field team entertained the rest of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Friday, hosting Day 1 of the ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at their brand new on-campus venue.

The Royal women held their own against the best of the ODAC. Most notably, Aldora Tuilaepa, a first-year thrower from Australia, and Halie Mast, a distance runner from Harrisonburg, both made the podium in their events with third-place finishes.

Highlights
  • SPRINTS
    • 100m Dash (Prelims): In wet conditions following a lengthy weather delay, Nia Boyd picked up a new personal best time of 13.73 to come home in 21st place.
    • 100m Hurdles (Prelims): Faith Schultz jumped and ran her way to 11th place and an official time of 16.65.
  • DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
    • 3000m Steeplechase: Mast clocked in at 11:54.93 to take the bronze in the steeplechase, just about a second and a half away from her personal best time. Elili Asefa came in right behind Mast in fourth place with a time of 12:19.18. The duo combined to add 11 points to the Royals' team total.
  • JUMPS
    • Long Jump: Angel David led the way for EMU by tying for 12th place, leaping 4.93m (16'-2.25") on her best effort of the day.
  • THROWS
    • Hammer Throw: Tuilaepa threw 43.01m (141'-1") on her second throw of the day, and that mark held up for third place and six points for the Royals.
    • Shot Put: Tuilaepa followed up her medal performance in the hammer with a personal best throw of 10.44m (34'-3") to place 13th.
What's Next
The ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude tomorrow, Saturday, April 26th, right on campus at EMU. The first field events begin at 10 a.m., while the running events will commence at 2 p.m.
