SALEM, Va. – The EMU Track & Field Royals kept their indoor season going with a trip to Salem for the running of the annual Finn Pincus Invitational in the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College.
The women's team was shorthanded on the weekend, but they still logged some noteworthy performances in the two-day meet.
Highlights
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 1000m Run: Elili Asefa ran five laps of the 200-meter indoor track in 3:21.51, a personal best time by four seconds. The junior from Lancaster, Pa., logged a top-10 finish by placing ninth overall.
- Mile Run: Jenna Weaver ran a season-best time of 5:33.11 to finish ninth in the mile.
- SPRINTS
- 60m Dash: Nia Boyd crossed the line in 8.85 seconds, just two one-hundredths of a second off of her PR.
- 200m Dash: Boyd also competed in the 200m, clocking in at 31.33
- 400m Dash: Asefa enjoyed a double PR weekend, posting a best time of 1:06.43.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: Angel David focused on the jumps at Roanoke, starting with a mark of 4.72m (15'-6") in the long jump.
- Triple Jump: David then leapt 10.45m in the triple jump, making the finals and finishing eighth.
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will split up between two meets next weekend. A select group of athletes will go to Geneva, Ohio to run in the SPIRE Midwest Open on Saturday, Jan. 25. The majority of the team will stay in the Commonwealth for the VMI Invitational, a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25.
