WINCHESTER, Va. – The EMU Track & Field team traveled to their second meet in three days on Sunday, making the one-hour trip north to Winchester for the Holiday Kickoff meet at Shenandoah University.
The women's team capped off a good opening weekend as five different athletes placed in the top five in their events, along with several personal best and top-10 school performances.
Highlights

- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 800m Run: Jenna Weaver finished fourth in a time of 2:33.82, with teammate Haile Mast right behind her in fifth, completing four laps of the indoor track in 2:34.42.
- Mile Run: Weaver and Mast also placed fourth and fifth in the mile run, registering times of 5:34.25 and 5:39.61. Elili Asefa (5:39.63) and Erin Loker (5:45.15) also ran the mile, placing sixth and seventh to complete the Royals' pack in the event.
- SPRINTS
- 60m Dash: Nia Boyd turned in a personal record performance of 8.83, topping her previous PR by nearly three-tenths of a second.
- 200m Dash: Angel David completed one lap of the track in an indoor personal best 27.88 to place 11th overall.
- 60m Hurdles
- Abby Atwood followed up her excellent double on Friday by making the finals in the 60m hurdles, finishing fourth and crossing the line in 9.77. That time puts Atwood fourth in EMU history for the event.
- Faith Schultz also ran well in the event, setting a new PR of 10.24 seconds to finish 10th.
- JUMPS
- High Jump: Schultz's best finish of the day came in the high jump, taking home runner-up honors with a clearance of 1.46m (4'-9.25") over the bar.
- Long Jump: David and Schultz finished second and third, respectively. David's best jump of the day was 5.01m (16'-5") while Schultz went 4.90m (16'-0.75").
- THROWS
- Weight Throw: Lily Gatesman threw a best mark of 9.68m (31'-9") to placed 22nd in her first attempt at the weight throw.
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field athletes will have to wait a while before their next competition. The Royals will return to Shenandoah for the Kaye & J.J. Smith Invite on Sunday, Jan. 12, with the first events scheduled to begin at 11 a.m
