LYNCHBURG, Va. – The EMU Track & Field team laced up their spikes for the first time this season at the Liberty Kickoff on Thursday and Friday in Lynchburg, Va. The meet featured a deep field that included several Division I schools, including Duke and Virginia. ODAC rivals Lynchburg, Roanoke, Hollins, Sweet Briar, Roanoke, and Ferrum also sent athletes to Liberty.
On the women's side, three sprinters and jumpers represented the Royals in their season opener.
Abby Atwood, a first-year from Roanoke, Va., excelled in her first college meet, adding her name to EMU's top-10 all-time indoor lists in two events.

- 60m Dash
- Atwood clocked in at 8.28 seconds for 60m, putting her in a tie for fifth on EMU's all-time list with Ray Ray Taylor.
- Faith Schultz set a new 60m personal record of 8.76.
- 200m Dash
- Atwood followed up on her 60m performance with a time of 28.04 in her first collegiate 200m. That is good for a tie at eighth place on EMU's all-time list for the indoor 200m.
- Schultz also competed for the Royals in the 200m, completing the distance in 30.01.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: Angel David placed 26th overall, going 4.91m (16'-1.5") on her best jump of the day. Schultz mustered a mark of 4.68m (15'-4.25").
- Triple Jump: David took home 17th in the triple jump, landing in the sand pit at 35'-8".
What's Next
This Sunday, Dec. 8, EMU will send a larger group of athletes to the Holiday Kickoff at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. It will be the Royals' last meet before an extended break from competition for the holidays. The first event at Wilkins Athletics & Events Center will begin at 1 p.m.
