LYNCHBURG, Va. - EMU kicked off day one of the 2022 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, taking on the rest of the conference at the University of Lynchburg.
After day one, the Royals sit in fifth place in the men's standings with 28 points and seventh in the women's field with 10 points. The Royals had multiple all-ODAC finishers during the day's competition and have set themselves up nicely heading to tomorrow's final day.
Highlights - Track
- Clay Kaufman had a big day for EMU, finishing second in the 10,000m with a PR of 32:09.75, which bested his previous best time by almost two minutes. In the women's 10,000m, Allison Shelly picked up points for EMU as she finished in sixth place.
- Alijah Johnson and Kendra Oguamena will return on Saturday to compete in the finals of the 100m dash and the 200m. Johnson finished second in the 100m prelims and was the leader in the 200m prelims while Oguamena will come into Saturday's finals seeded fifth and eighth, respectively.
- Senior Justice Allen just narrowly missed out on all-ODAC honors, grabbing fourth in the 3000m steeplechase. Allen's steeplechase teammate, Vanessa Gardiner and Halie Mast, picked up points for EMU as they crossed the finish line in fifth and sixth place.
Highlights - Field
- Another Alijah, this time Alijah Ellis, got the scoring started for EMU in the field events. His high jump of 1.90m was good enough to net him fourth place.
- Eli Roeschley earned All-ODAC honors in the long jump with a third place finish and Brendan Apgar also scored points for the Royals with a seventh place. Christian Schmidt rounded out the day's scoring for EMU when the freshman finished seventh in the shot put.
What's Next
EMU will stay in Lynchburg for Saturday's ODAC Championship finale. The first events, women's javelin, triple jump and men's pole vault, will begin at 9:30 am.
