BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The EMU Track & Field team stayed close to home for the second weekend of the outdoor season, traveling to nearby Bridgewater College for the annual Doc Jopson Invitational. The meet brought in competition from 11 different schools, including ODAC rivals Shenandoah, Virginia Wesleyan, Washington & Lee, and the host school Bridgewater.
Koran Rucker continued his strong start to the outdoor season with a pair of second-place finishes in the discus and shot put.
Highlights
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 800m Run: Ben Huyard was the top Royal in this event, clocking in at 2:10.57.
- 1500m Run: Huyard also led EMU in the 1500m, placing 12th in a time of 4:33.23. Noah Buckwalter set a new personal record at exactly 5:00.
- SPRINTS
- 100m Dash: Hezekiah Brown dashed has way to a time of 11.51 to finish 15th.
- 200m Dash: Jameel Vann sprinted half a lap of the track in 22.92 to place 14th.
- 400m Dash: Bryce Alley finished 12th in a time of 55.37, while Alex Belisle was right behind in 13th with a new PR time of 55.79.
- JUMPS
- Pole Vault: Alex Jantzen cleared a height of 3.46m (11'4.25") to placed
- THROWS
- Discus: Rucker went 43.73m (143'6") on his second throw of the day to take home runner-up honors.
- Hammer: Rucker took home sixth place in the hammer with a mark of 45.46m (149'2").
- Shot Put: Rucker set a new outdoor personal best of 15.33m (50'3.5") for second place, strengthening his hold on third in EMU history for the outdoor shot put.

The EMU Track & Field team will head out of state next week for the VertKlasse Meeting on Thursday and Friday, April 2-3 in High Point, N.C. The first events on Thursday will commence at 10 a.m.
