HARRISONBURG, Va. – EMU Head Athletic Trainer Ian Smith has announced the hiring of Kerigan Moomaw to the Royals Athletic Training staff.

"I am excited to bring Kerigan on to round out our team of three," Smith said. "She brings a genuine excitement for the profession and willingness to learn, as well as a strong desire to care for our student-athletes as a whole. I have no doubt that she will be an excellent addition to the university and athletics department."

While completing her degree, she interned at Spotswood High school, where she was responsible for conducting thorough assessments of athletes' injuries to determine appropriate care and referral to medical professionals as needed, maintained comprehensive and accurate documentation of athlete injuries, rehabilitation protocols, and daily treatment notes to support effective treatment planning and communication with healthcare staff, communicated and collaborated with coaches regarding injuries and return to play and more. She also worked with the James Madison University Cheerleading, Swim and Dive and Men's Tennis teams, as well as the BC Women's Basketball, Softball and Football teams.

She earned a Bachelor's of Science in health and exercise science with a minor in psychology in 2024, also from Bridgewater College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.

"I am super excited to be a part of the EMU community," Moomaw said. "I love the environment of DIII athletics and can't wait to work with the student-athletes, coaches, and staff."

Moomaw will start at EMU on August 1.
