LYNCHBURG, Va. – The athletes of EMU Track & Field had one last tune-up meet before they host the ODAC Championships next week, bringing a small group to compete in the WildCat Invitational, hosted by Randolph College. The majority of the ODAC was in attendance, including competitors from Averett, Bridgewater, Hampden-Sydney, Hollins, Lynchburg, Randolph, Roanoke, and Sweet Briar.
Five women represented the Royals in the sprinting and distance, bringing home a podium finish and three personal bests.
Highlights
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 800m Run: Claire Hurst set a new PR time of 2:45.38 to take 18th place. Sarah Wheeler also ran a personal best time of 3:04.34 to finish 26th.
- 1500m Run: Wheeler ran her second PR of the day in the 1500m, completed 3.75 laps of the track in 6:18.33 for 23rd overall.
- SPRINTS
- 100m Dash: CJ Jefferson sprinted to the line in 14.09 to place 14th, followed by Nia Boyd in 17th place at 14.42.
- 200m Dash: Jefferson clocked in at 29.67, good for 16th place in the event.
- 400m Hurdles: Elili Asefa, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., claimed runner-up honors with a time of 1:11.02.
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will host the best in the conference for the annual ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the EMU Track & Field Facility next Friday and Saturday, April 24-25. The action opens on Friday with field events starting at noon and running event commencing at 4 p.m.
