Dickinson Steps Down as Head Track & Field Coach

HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU Director of Athletics Carrie S. Bert has announced the resignation of Kyle Dickinson as EMU's Head Track & Field Coach.

"Kyle has been a quiet but steady and consistent contributor to EMU Athletics, both in his leadership of track and field and in the many ways he has supported the department behind the scenes," Bert said. "We have seen significant growth in Kyle from his time as an assistant coach to leading the program, and along the way he recruited and coached incredible student-athletes to tremendous success. He was also instrumental in the details and final stages of bringing our track and field facility to completion, which will be a lasting part of his contribution to EMU."

Dickinson came to EMU in 2020 and made a significant impact on the program in his six years with the Royals. He has coached two NCAA All-Americans, five ODAC Champions, more than 130 Top-10 all-time EMU performance record holders and has seen the men's and women's track & field teams ranked in the top 25 nationally and top 10 regionally.

"Kyle has been the perfect coach for EMU for the last six years," said Bob Hepler, Director of Cross Country, Track & Field and Triathlon. "He's an excellent coach who produced exceptional athletes. He's also a trusted friend and colleague. Working with him has been a delight. The athletes and I are grateful for six great years."

Dickinson, a native of Harrisburg, PA, will head back to the Keystone State to become the Head Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Widener University.

"My time at EMU has been amazing and the community was first class, which made my time here so memorable," Dickinson said. "Bob and Carrie, along with the rest of the athletics staff, were tremendous to work with. Of course, I wouldn't be anything without my student athletes; I was very blessed to work with each and every single one of them. We made a lot of history at EMU and I'm thankful to be a part of their athletic journey. EMU will always have a place in my heart as I transition into Widener University."

Hepler will continue his role as the Director of XC, T&F and Triathlon, Pete Szelwach will continue to work with throws while Brendan Apgar and Ray Ray Taylor, both EMU T&F alums, will stay on to continue coaching. A national search will commence in the coming weeks.
