SALEM, Va. – The athletes of EMU Track & Field put their training to the test against the best in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference this weekend, competing in the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28-March 1 at the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College.
The women's team took home 10th place overall, headlined by points-scoring performances by
Faith Schultz and the women's distance medley relay.
Highlights
- SPRINTS
- 60m Dash: Nia Boyd placed 21st in prelims with a time of 8.64.
- 200m Dash: Boyd sprinted one lap of the track in 29.62, followed by CJ Jefferson in 31.23.
- 60m Hurdles: Schultz made the final by placing eighth in the prelims on Saturday with a personal best time of 9.73. She followed that up with another PR performance of 9.66 in the Sunday final, finishing eighth overall.
- DISTANCE
- 800m Run: Elili Asefa ran an even 2:30 to take home 13th place.
- Mile Run: Erin Loker set a new personal record time of 5:28.33, a two-second improvement that moves her up to seventh all-time in EMU history for the indoor mile.
- 3000m Run: Loker completed her busy conference meet with another PR time of 11:13.13, seven seconds better than her previous best and good for 12th place in the 3k.
- RELAYS
- Distance Medley Relay: The relay team of Asefa, Jefferson, Claire Hurst and Loker collaborated for a time of 14:14.29 to finish sixth, adding three points to EMU's total.
- JUMPS
- High Jump: Schultz scored a point for the Royals with an eighth-place showing, clearing the bar at 1.46m (4'9.5").
- Long Jump: Angel David landed in the sand pit at 4.54m (14'10.75") to slot into 17th place.
- Triple Jump: David jumped 10.00m (32'9.75"), good for 12th place.
- THROWS
- Weight Throw: Addison Shanholtz threw a mark of 13.66m (44'-9.75") to finish 11th, followed by Lily Gatesman in 19th (11.96m/39'3") and Emma Greer in 23rd (11.27m/36'11.75").
- Shot Put: Greer was the top Royal in this event with a personal best throw of 10.19m (33'5.25"), giving her 13th overall. Shanholtz's best throw of the meet was 9.18m (30'1.5").
What's Next
That wraps up the indoor season for EMU Women's Track & Field. They will now look ahead to the spring outdoor campaign, which begins with the Washington & Lee Carnival on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21 in Lexington, Va.
