LEXINGTON, Va. – EMU Track & Field's athletes hit the road again this weekend, only this time they went to two separate meets: the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Va. and the Doc Hale Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
For the men, it was
Nick Arnold, a junior sprinter from Greensboro, N.C., who represented the Royals in the 400-meter dash at the Doc Hale Invitational at Virginia Tech, while a contingent of sprinters, jumpers, and throwers headed to VMI.
Koran Rucker had another solid weekend, finishing as the top Division III athletes in both the shot put and weight throw at VMI.
Highlights
- SPRINTS
- 400m Dash (Doc Hale Invite): Arnold finished eighth overall with a time of 49.99; however, he was second among DIII athletes in the event, trailing only Chance Bass of North Carolina Wesleyan.
- 60m Dash: Ethan Lloyd led the Royals in this event, clocking in at 7.16 for a 26th-place finish. Isaiah crossed the finish line in 7.20, good for 32nd.
- 200m Dash: Ahsan Abul-Qasim placed 17th, sprinting one lap of the indoor track in 22.57. Right behind him, Arnold set an indoor 200m PR of 22.58 to finish 18th. Reid clocked in at 23.18 to round out the Royal trio in the 200m.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: Abul-Qasim leapt into the sand pit at 6.60m (21'8") to take 12th overall.
- THROWS
- Shot Put: Rucker made the podium in third place with a mark of 14.85m (48'8.75"). Behind him, Silas Bates and David Pinon placed 21st and 23rd respectively with marks of 12.45m (40'10.25") and 12.03m (39'5.75").
- Weight Throw: Rucker made the final and finished eighth with his best throw of the day going 15.55m (51'0.25").
What's Next
EMU Track & Field has two more meets on the docket for next weekend. The Royals will enter athletes in both the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at Liberty University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14 as well as the Joe LaRocco Invitational at Roanoke College, a one-day meet that Saturday, Feb. 14.
