Rucker Recognized as ODAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Koran Rucker, a first-year from Philadelphia, Pa., has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 26 - Feb.1, per a release from the conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Rucker won both the shot put and the weight throw at the Bast-Cregger Multis Invite on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College. In the weight throw, Rucker's best throw went 16.63m (54'6.75"), resetting the school record that he claimed earlier this season at the Finn Pincus Invitational. In the shot put, Rucker's victorious throw was a personal record of 16.03m (52'7.25"). That is the best indoor shot put effort in the ODAC since 2016. Coincidentally, that mark from a decade ago was by EMU thrower Jeremy Heizer, a distance of 16.26m that still stands as the second-best indoor shot put in school history.

Rucker has quickly emerged as one of the elite throwers in the ODAC, currently leading the conference in both shot put and weight throw entering the final month of the indoor season. Nationally, Rucker currently sits in a tie for 29th at the NCAA Division III level in the shot put.

EMU Track & Field is back in action at two separate meets this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7. A few athletes will go to the Doc Hale Invitational at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., while most of the team will compete at the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Va.
