SALEM, Va. – On Saturday, the EMU Track & Field team competed in a familiar venue, going to the Cregger Center at Roanoke College for the Joe LaRocco Invitational. Most of the ODAC was in attendance with athletes from Averett, Guilford, Hampden-Sydney, Hollins, Lynchburg, Randolph, Roanoke, Shenandoah, Sweet Briar, and Washington & Lee competing alongside the Royals.
Nick Arnold and
Isaiah Reid represented the Royal men at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at Liberty.
Da'Shawn Winters and
Koran Rucker continue to shine for the Royals this indoor season, tallying a top-three finish apiece in their events at Roanoke.
Highlights
- SPRINTS
- 200m Dash: Winters finished fifth overall, sprinting one lap of the 200m indoor track in 23.10.
- 200m Dash (Darius Dixon): Reid clocked in with a lap of 23.09 at the Liberty track.
- 400m Dash: Josh Joseph placed 15th overall in a season best time of 54.19, while Bryce Alley collected a new PR with a time of 56.42.
- 400m Dash (Darius Dixon): Arnold was the top DIII athlete in the 400m, placing 20th with a time of 49.95.
- 500m Dash (Darius Dixon): Arnold finished 18th against a field of Division I athletes in the 500m, clocking in at 1:08.92.
- 60m Hurdles: Shaddai Bailey crossed the line in 12th in a time of 9.10.
- DISTANCE
- 800m Run: Ethan Kanagy ran a season best of 2:16.00, followed by Logan Boyd in 2:24.89.
- Mile Run: Kanagy had a great double on Saturday, setting a new personal record of 4:48.21 in the mile.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: Winters took home runner-up honors in the long jump, leaping 6.80m (22'-3.75") on his best effort of the day.
- THROWS
- Shot Put: Rucker placed third with a mark of 13.96m (45'-9.75") in the shot put and finished eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.85m (45'5.25").
What's Next
The athletes of EMU Track & Field will have one final tune-up meet before the ODAC Indoor Championships when they compete at the Rockingham Collegiate Classic in Penn Laird, Va., this Friday, Feb. 20. The first events will commence at 10 a.m.
