SALEM, Va. – On Saturday, the EMU Track & Field team competed in a familiar venue, going to the Cregger Center at Roanoke College for the Joe LaRocco Invitational. Most of the ODAC was in attendance with athletes from Averett, Guilford, Hampden-Sydney, Hollins, Lynchburg, Randolph, Roanoke, Shenandoah, Sweet Briar, and Washington & Lee competing alongside the Royals.
After a weekend off for the distance runners last week,
Erin Loker had an outstanding performance in the 5000-meter run, finishing in the runner-up spot behind winner Madison Chorney of Shenandoah.
Highlights
- SPRINTS
- 60m Dash: Nia Boyd dashed her way to a time of 8.74 in the 60m.
- 200m Dash: Boyd also got into the starting blocks for the 200m, clocking in at 30.19.
- 400m Dash: Peyton LaCombe led the way with a personal record time of 1:09.95, finishing 20th. CJ Jefferson made her EMU Track & Field debut with a time of 1:16.95, while Eve Detter finished in 1:25.21.
- DISTANCE
- 800m Run: LaCombe was the top Royal in this event as well, running four laps of the track in 2:58.80.
- Mile Run: LaCombe completed her busy day with a 6:36.44 mile.
- 5000m Run: Loker logged a new personal record time of 19:37.50, a seven second improvement from her previous PR.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: Angel David landing in the sand pit at 4.58m (15'0.5"), good for seventh place.
- Triple Jump: David also made the final in triple jump, slotting into eighth place with a mark of 9.93m (32'7").
- THROWS
- Shot Put/Weight Throw: Addison Shanholtz led the Royals in both throwing, scoring a pair of 10th-place finishes in the shot put and weight throw. Shanholtz had a best throw of 13.18m (43'3") in the weight throw, followed by a mark of 10.27m (33'8.5") in the shot put.

The athletes of EMU Track & Field will have one final tune-up meet before the ODAC Indoor Championships when they compete at the Rockingham Collegiate Classic in Penn Laird, Va., this Friday, Feb. 20. The first events will commence at 10 a.m.
