Schultz, Loker, Greer Achieve EMU Top-10 Marks at Shane Stevens Invitational

PENN LAIRD, Va. – EMU Track & Field stayed local for its meet this weekend, heading the Edward S. Long, Jr. Track Complex just east of Harrisonburg to compete in the Shane Stevens Winter Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater College. The meet started earlier and was shortened due to impending winter weather heading towards the area.
 
The women's team turned in some noteworthy performances as athletes from across several event groups set new personal records and EMU Top 10 all-time marks.

Highlights
  • SPRINTS
    • 60m Dash: Nia Boyd finished seventh, sprinting down the straightaway in a time of 8.78.
    • 200m Dash: Boyd also led the Royals in this event, clocking in at 30.34.
    • 400m Dash: Peyton LaCombe completed two laps of the track in 1:10.68 to place ninth overall.
    • 60m Hurdles: Faith Schultz ran a new PR of 9.75 to finish in third place. Schultz improved upon her spot at fifth in EMU history in the 60m hurdles.  
  • DISTANCE
    • 800m Run: Elili Asefa tallied a top-five finish, placing fifth overall in a time of 2:33.79. Erin Loker came in right behind Asefa in sixth, crossing the finish line in a personal best time of 2:34.12.
    • Mile Run: Loker also set a PR in the mile, completing eight laps of the track in 5:30.07. Loker made EMU's top 10 all-time list for the indoor mile, moving up to eighth in school history in the event.
  • JUMPS
    • Long Jump: Schultz place runner-up with a best jump of 4.83m (15'10.25"). Angel David made her season debut, finishing third with a mark of 4.51m (14'9.75").
    • Triple Jump: David took second place in the triple jump, landing in the sand pit at 10.07m (33'0.5") on her best effort of the day.
  • THROWS
    • Shot Put: Addison Shanholtz and Emma Greer both threw personal records as Shanholtz finished fourth with a mark of 10.21m (33'6") with Greer placing fifth at 9.90m (32'5.75").
    • Weight Throw: The Royals had three throwers in the top 10. Shanholtz led the way in fourth with a mark of 12.56m (41'2.5"), followed by Greer in sixth at 12.03m (39'5.75") and Lily Gatesman in 10th with a best throw of 10.84m (35'6.75"). Greer's throw was a personal best that now puts her fourth in EMU history for the weight throw, trailing only Gatesman, Shanholtz,  and current record holder Alyssa Bane.
 
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will make its second trip to the Cregger Center at Roanoke College this season when they compete at the Bast-Cregger Multi Invitational next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31.
