Roby Steps Down as Royals Athletic Trainer

HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU Athletic Trainer Stephanie Roby has announced that she is stepping down from her role after four plus years with the Royals.

"What a pleasure it has been to work alongside Steph for the past 5 years," said Ian Smith, Head Athletic Trainer. "Since she joined our team, we have been able to successfully implement changes that would not have been possible without her assistance and knowledge. Her time here will be remembered for the strong relationships she made with many athletes, as well as other students on campus. I wish her well in her next role, knowing fully well she will continue to positively impact the lives of student-athletes."

Roby came to EMU in Jan. 2021, stepping in after the retirement of long-time EMU AT Mike Downey. During her time at EMU, she's worked with thousands of athletes across 17 varsity sports. Along with her duties as an athletic trainer, Roby was also the faculty advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as an adjunct professor.

Prior to coming to EMU, Roby had been an assistant athletic trainer at McDaniel College, since May 2017. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from James Madison University, and an MS in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Lock Haven University. In Jan. 2023, she earned her Ed.D from Liberty University.

"EMU has been a chapter of my life filled with unforgettable experiences, meaningful relationships, and personal growth that I will carry with me always," Roby said. "To the athletes, coaches, and administration, thank you for welcoming me with open arms and allowing me to be a part of the EMU Royals family for the last 5 years!"

EMU Athletics will now look to hire a new athletic trainer before the start of the 2025-26 season. For more information about the position, or to apply, click here.
