LYNCHBURG, Va. – Following a successful weekend as hosts at the ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the EMU Track & Field team sent a handful of distance runners and throwers to the University of Lynchburg on Friday to compete in their annual Hill City Twilight meet.Â
The highlights of the night for the Royals came in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with
Bellamy Immanuel and
Halie Mast both setting new school records in the event. Immanuel completed the 7.5-lap event in a time of 9:24.39, surpassing the previous EMU record of 9:30.06 in the men's steeplechase, set by Jared Nisly in 2017.
Just a few moments later, Mast clocked in at 11:41.56, setting a new EMU standard in the women's steeplechase. The previous EMU record was 11:44.11, ran by Mast's teammate
Elili Asefa in last spring's ODAC Championships at Bridgewater.Â

- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 3000m Steeplechase: Mast's performance put her in second place overall, beating two Division I leaders and crossing the line just two seconds behind winner Katelyn Campbell of Radford.
- THROWS
- Discus: Emma Greer threw 35.77m (117'-9.25") to finish seventh, achieving a new personal record by nearly four meters.Â
Highlights (Men)
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- 3000m Steeplechase: Immanuel placed third overall, outrunning several Division I athletes. He was less than eight seconds behind the winner Zack Ericksen of William & Mary.Â
- 800m Run: Abenezer Abebe cracked the top 10, finishing 10th in a time of 1:57.77, less than a second off of his PR. Ben Huyard did set a new PR time of 2:07.77 on his way to 18th place.
- THROWS
- Discus: Mathew Lawson contributed a PR performance of his own, heaving the disc 26.40m (86'-7.25") to finish sixth.Â
- Hammer: Will Ramos heaved the hammer exactly 29.00m (95'-1.5"), narrowly achieving a personal record in the event.Â
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team has two more last chance meets to finish out their 2025 outdoor season. The Royals will head to the Lee Last Chance meet in Cleveland, Tenn., on Saturday, May 10 before wrapping things up at Widener Final Qualifier in Chester, Pa., on Monday, May 12.Â
