Three Royals Make Podium in Events at Rockingham Collegiate Open

PENN LAIRD, Va. –  For their final indoor meet before the ODAC championships, the EMU Track & Field team stayed local, sending athletes to the brand-new Rockingham County Rec Center just east of Harrisonburg for the inaugural Rockingham Collegiate Open, hosted by Bridgewater College.
 
On the men's side, three athletes finished in the top three in their events, including a win for Bellamy Immanuel in the 800-meter run.
 
 
Highlights
 
  • DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
    • 800m Run: Immanuel broke the tape in a time of 1:57.48, edging out Jamison Mantooth of Lynchburg for the victory.
    • Mile Run: Nate Lehman continued his steady improvement throughout the season with another mile PR, completing eight laps of the track in 4:45.21.
    • 5000m Run: Luke Buckwalter led the way with a seventh-place finish and a time of 17:31.58. Will Bartel set a new personal best, crossing the finish line in 18:54.75.
  • SPRINTS
    • 60m Dash: Three Royals made the final as Isaiah Reid, Damon Morgan and Ethan Lloyd finished third, fifth, and eighth, respectively. Lloyd set a personal best time of 7.26 seconds in the prelims.
    • 60m Hurdles: Shaddai Bailey ran a significant PR time of 8.85 on his way to fifth overall in the final.
    • 200m Dash: Morgan, Reid, and Nick Arnold cracked the top 10 in the 200m with finishes of sixth, eighth, and 10th, respectively.
  • JUMPS
    • Long Jump: Da'Shawn Winters jumped a season-best mark of 6.47m (21'-2.75"), placing fourth overall.
    • Pole Vault: Micah Mast made the podium with a clearance of 3.83m (12'-6.75"), while Karim Frazier made his EMU debut with a fourth-place finish and a mark of 3.68m (12'-0.75").
  • THROWS
    • Shot Put: Christian Schmidt and Grant Leichty finished ninth and 10th with throws of 12.32m (40'-5") and 12.28m (40'-3.5").
    • Weight Throw: Schmidt was also the top Royal in the weight throw as his best attempt of the day went 12.77m (41'-10.75"), logging an eighth-place finish.
 
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team now turns to the culmination of their indoor season with the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, taking place next Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2. The meet will be hosted by Roanoke College at the Cregger Center in Salem, Va.
