WINCHESTER, Va. – Before turning their attention to final exams and winter break, the athletes of EMU Track & Field made the trip up I-81 to Winchester for the Shenandoah University Holiday Kickoff. The meet featured competitors from four other ODAC schools: Hollins, Lynchburg, Washington & Lee, and the host school Shenandoah.
The women's team had four top-three finishers in their events on the way to a fifth-place team finish with 50 points.
Highlights
- SPRINTS
- 60m Dash: Nia Boyd ran a new personal record of 8.68 seconds in the 60m.
- 200m Dash: Boyd also represented the Royals in the 200m, sprinting one lap of the indoor track in 30.34
- 400m Dash: First-year Tinyia Terrell continued her strong start to the season by finishing third, crossing the finish line in 1:03.12.
- 60m Hurdles: Faith Schultz, a junior from Front Royal, Va., made the finals with a time of 9.88 in the preliminary round. She finished fifth in the final, clocking in at 9.93.
- DISTANCE
- Mile Run: Erin Loker led the Royals in this event, running a personal best time of 5:36.11 to make the podium in third place.
- JUMPS
- High Jump: Schultz tied for second place, clearing the bar at a height of 1.47m (4'-7.75").
- Long Jump: Schultz completed a strong jumps double with a second-place showing, jumping 4.86m (15'-11.25").
- THROWS
- Weight Throw: Addison Shanholtz achieved a new PR mark of 11.97m (39'-3.25"), vaulting up to fourth in the EMU all-time list for the event. Lily Gatesman followed close behind with a mark of 11.78m (38'-7.75").
What's Next
EMU Track & Field's athletes will have to wait over a month for their next chance to compete. They will return to Shenandoah on Sunday, Jan. 11 for the Kaye & JJ Smith Invitational. The first events in Winchester will begin at 11 a.m.
