TEMPE, ARIZ.- The EMU Women's Triathlon team reached the culmination of their 2025 season on Saturday, flying out west for the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships, hosted by Arizona State University at Tempe Town Lake Park in Tempe, Ariz. The competition, consisting of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a five-kilometer run, brought in hundreds of athletes from dozens of schools across all three division of the NCAA.
Four EMU triathletes qualified for the event, putting forth solid efforts in tough race conditions to come home sixth as a nation at the Division III level, tying Warren Wilson with a team score of 103 points.
North Central College won its fourth consecutive Division III team title with a high score of 450 points, boosted by Bethany Smeed's individual DIII championship in a race time of 1:10:13.
Highlights
- Team Place: T-6th (103 points)
- Zoe Clymer, a junior from Collinsville, Miss., was the highest-placing Royal. Competing in Heat 2 (out of three heats overall), Clymer logged a total time of 1:23:28.9 to finish 24th in Division III. Clymer's race time included a 14:12.4 swim time, 41:13.4 bike ride, and a 26:13.1 5k run.
- Juliette Soos, a first-year from Orlando, Fla., came home 31st in DIII with a time of 1:24:46.2, including a 15:59 swim, a 42:20 bike, and a 24:31.2 run. Soos had the fastest 5k run out of the four EMU triathletes.
- Daisy Buller, a senior from Newton, Kan., finished right behind Soos in 32nd among DIII athletes with a time of 1:24:51.3 (15:57.8 swim, 41:52.9 bike, 25:10 run).
- Sarah Wheeler, a junior from Hudson, Mich., completed the course in a time 1:32:56.9 (17:22.9 swim, 45:49.6 bike, 27:51.6 run), good for 46th in the DIII competition.
What's Next
This concludes the season for EMU Women's Triathlon. Buller is the lone senior on the squad, with everyone else slated to return for 2026.
