Led by Immanuel’s 5k Win, Royal Men Excel at Finn Pincus Invitational

 
SALEM, Va. –  The EMU Track & Field Royals kept their indoor season going with a trip to Salem for the running of the annual Finn Pincus Invitational in the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College.
 
For the men's team, athletes from every event group made key contributions and put forth personal best performances. Most notably, Bellamy Immanuel earned his third event win in the past two meets, this time in the 5000-meter run.

Highlights
  • DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
    • 800m Run: Ben Huyard represented the Royals in this event, finishing 17th in a time of 2:19.47.
    • 1000m Run: Nate Lehman continued the strong start to his senior season of track & field, running a PR of 2:53.80 to place 11th overall in the 1000m.  
    • Mile Run:  Lehman also led the Royals in the mile, achieving a new personal best time of 4:49.24.
    • 5000m Run: Immanuel broke the tape in the 5000m with a time of 15:21.16, over 12 seconds of runner-up Matt Garis from the host school Roanoke.
  • SPRINTS
    • Virginia Tech Invite 300m Dash:  Nick Arnold competed in Blacksburg in Friday night, posting a time of 35.61 to finish seventh in the 300m. With that performance, Arnold moves up to third all-time in EMU history in the 300m.
    • 60m Dash: Isaiah Reid qualified for the semifinals in a deep 60m field, finishing 19th and crossing the line in 7.13 seconds.
    • 200m Dash: Arnold led the Royals in this event, placing 22nd in a time of 23.43.
    • 400m Dash: Reid sprinted two laps of the track in 54.17, slotting into 24th overall.
    • 600m Dash: Abenezer Abebe clocked in at 1:29.12 in the three-lap race, taking home a top-10 finish in seventh.
    • 60m Hurdles: Shaddai Bailey placed 14th in a time of 9.15.
  • JUMPS
    • Pole Vault: Micah Mast cleared the 13-feet barrier for the first time in his college career, achieving a personal best mark of 4.01m (13'-1.75").
  • THROWS
    • Shot Put: Grant Leichty set a new PR of 12.47m (40'-11") to place 17th, while Christian Schmidt threw 12.12m (39'-9.25") for a 22nd-place showing.
    • Weight Throw: Liechty and Schmidt best set new personal records in the weight throw, with marks of 12.76m and 11.96m, respectively.
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will split up between two meets next weekend. A select group of athletes will go to Geneva, Ohio to run in the SPIRE Midwest Open on Saturday, Jan. 25. The majority of the team will stay in the Commonwealth for the VMI Invitational, a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25.
