WINCHESTER, Va. – Coming off a long winter break, EMU's track & field athletes laced up their shoes for their first meet in over a month, competing in the Kaye & JJ Smith Invitiational at Shenandoah University on Sunday.

The Royals received significant contributions from every event group, highlighted by event wins from
Shaddai Bailey in the 60-meter hurdles and
Bellamy Immanuel in both the mile run and the 3000-meter run.
Highlights

- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- Mile Run: Immanuel broke away from the rest of the pack to win with a time of 4:32.04, winning by 7.65 seconds over the second-place runner. Nate Lehman also scored points for the team with a seventh-place finish, setting a personal record time of 4:49.30.
- 3000m Run: Immanuel completed his victorious double with a winning time of 8:59.31 in the 3000m, 9.35 seconds ahead of Alex Seskar of Hood College. Immanuel is currently second in the mile and fifth in the 3000m among ODAC athletes.
- SPRINTS
- 60m Dash:Â Royal athletes made up half of the eight sprinters to advance to the 60m final. In the final, Nick Arnold (Fourth/7.26) and Ethan Lloyd (Fifth/7.29) led the way for EMU.
- 200m Dash: Jameel Vann added three points to EMU's team score by finishing sixth, sprinting one lap of the track in 24.05.
- 60m Hurdles: Bailey broke the tape to win in a time of 9.12. Bailey currently ranks seventh in the ODAC in the 60m hurdles.
- JUMPS
- Long Jump: Da'Shawn Winters podiumed with a third-place finish and a best jump of 6.06m (19'-10.75")
- Pole Vault: Micah Mast cleared the bar at 3.60m (11'-9.75") to bring home a fourth-place finish.
- THROWS
- Shot Put: Grant Leichty placed fourth with a mark of 12.10m (39'-8.5"), followed closely behind by fellow senior Christian Schmidt in fifth, throwing 11.95m (39'-2.5")
- Weight Throw: Leichty and Schmidt both set personal records, finishing sixth (12.19m/40'-0") and seventh (11.95m/39'-2.5"), respectively.
- RELAYS
- The Royals fielded three separate teams in the 4x400-meter relay. The "A" team of Arnold, Isaiah Reid, Mast, and Winters clocked in at a time of 3:34.12 to finishing as runners-up.
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will head to Roanoke College for the Finn Pincus Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18. The first events on Friday begin at 3:30 p.m.
