SPOTSYLVANIA, Va.- The EMU women's triathlon team traveled to Lake Anna State Park on Sunday for their second competition of the 2024 season, putting their fitness to the test against other collegiate athletes at the Giant Acorn Triathlon. The squad competed in the collegiate sprint triathlon, consisting of a 750-meter swim in Lake Anna, a 15.5-mile bike ride, and ending with a 5k (3.1 miles) run.
The Royals dominated the collegiate sprint division, led by
Jenna Weaver finishing fourth overall and being the first woman across the line in a time of 1:25:21.3. Weaver's performance was part of a 1-2-3 podium sweep of the women's collegiate sprint division for EMU, with
Zoe Clymer and
Ella Richer taking second and third, respectively.
Highlights
- Weaver, a senior from Harrisonburg, ran the third-fastest 5k out of all collegiate triathletes, finishing the final leg of the race in 20:23.
- Clymer completed the sprint triathlon in a cumulative time of 1:29:04.1. Clymer, along with Weaver, was one of just six collegiate athletes to finish with a time under an hour and a half.
- Richer clocked in at a time of 1:33:45.8. Richer, a first-year from Archbold, Ohio, did her best work on the bike, navigating the 15.5-mile ride in 46:10, the second-fastest bike segment among collegiate athletes.
- Daisy Buller and Sarah Wheeler rounded out the Royals' lineup at Lake Anna, traversing the triathlon in times of 1:43:24.1 and 1:46:46.1, respectively.
- EMU men's cross country athletes Samuel Myers and Ben Huyard also competed on Sunday. Myers logged a time of 1:25:58.8, while Huyard finished the race in 1:29:21.7.

The EMU triathletes will be back at it next Sunday, Sept. 29 as they head to Robious Landing Park in Chesterfield, Va., for the Robious Landing Triathlon. The women's collegiate division of the event will commence at 10 a.m.
