LYNCHBURG, Va. – The EMU Track & Field team made a last-minute addition to their 2024 outdoor slate, sending two mid-distance runners to the Hill City Twilight at the University of Lynchburg on Friday, May 3.
Bellamy Immanuel and
Elili Asefa both ran well in the 800-meter run, going up against competitive fields that included several Division I athletes.
Immanuel toed the starting line first, completing two laps of the track in a quick time of 1:54.80, setting a new personal record by a second and a half. Immanuel finished 12th overall, but he placed second among Division III competitors. With this performance, Immanuel became just the sixth runner in EMU history to complete the 800m in a time under 1:55.
Not to be outdone, Asefa also achieved a PR in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:23.92 to beat her previous best by just over a second and a half. Asefa moved up to fifth all-time in EMU history for the women's outdoor 800m. Asefa finished fifth overall in the meet but third among DIII runners.

The EMU Track & Field team will send a handful of athletes to the Lee Last Chance meet in Cleveland, Tenn., on Saturday, May 11.
