Men’s Track & Field Splits Up Between Bridgewater and Lynchburg

HARRISONBURG, Va. – EMU's Track & Field athletes put their training to the test in two separate meets this weekend: the Doc Jopson Invitational at Bridgewater College and the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Invitational at the University of Lynchburg.
 
The Royal men racked up some solid finishes at both meets, especially from the sprinters and junior distance runner Bellamy Immanuel.

Highlights: Doc Jopson Invitational (Bridgewater, Va.)
  • SPRINTS
    • Micah Mast turned in a marvelous meet at Bridgewater in multiple events. In the 100m, Mast turned in a wind-aided time of 11.42.
  • JUMPS
    • Mast put forth a good performance in the pole vault, placing fifth overall with a clearance of 3.73m (12'-2.75"). That mark places Mast ninth all-time in EMU history for the outdoor pole vault.
  • DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
    • Immanuel took home runner-up honors in the 1500m, clocking in at 4:04.76, just a second off of his personal best time.  
  • THROWS
    • Christian Schmidt competed in four separate events, leading the throwers with a 10th-place showing in the shot put and new personal best in the javelin throw of 25.31m (83'-0").
    • Grant Leichty led the Royals in the javelin throw in 11th place with a PR mark of 34.53m (113'-3").

  • SPRINTS
    • Damon Morgan carried the banner for the Royals in the sprint events, finishing sixth in the 200m (22.04) and 10th in the 100m (11.15).
  • JUMPS
    • Bryson Hunter stood out in the long jump, finishing sixth overall with a top jump of 6.60m (21'-7.75"), not far removed from EMU's top-10 all-time list in the event.
  • DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
    • Immanuel competed in the rescheduled 5000m on Friday night, setting a new PR of 15:04.73 to finishing in the runner-up spot. That time puts Immanuel third all-time in EMU history for the outdoor 5k.
 
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field athletes will now turn their focus to the Colonial Relays, taking place Thursday through Saturday, April 4-6 at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
