Men’s Track and Field Opens Up Outdoor Season Across Two States

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Fresh off an indoor season filled with school record and top-10 performances, the EMU Track & Field began their outdoor season this weekend. The Royals sent athletes to the Charlotte 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. as well as the W&L Track Carnival in Lexington, Va.

Two Royal men garnered podium finishes in their events at W&L. Bellamy Immanuel, a junior from Allentown, Pa., finished runner-up in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:48.13. First-year sprinter Nicholas Arnold finished third overall in the 400-meter dash, completing the lap in 50.44 seconds.

Highlights: Charlotte 49er Classic (Charlotte, N.C.)
  • SPRINTS
    • Damon Morgan placed 13th overall out of 90 athletes in the 200-meter dash, outpacing several DI athletes. Morgan clocked in at 22.10 seconds.
    • Da'Shawn Winters ran a college PR of 11.37 seconds in the 100m.

  • SPRINTS
    • Tyler Thompson led the pack of Royal sprinters in the 100m, placing ninth in a PR time of 11.38. Thompson also PR'd in the 200m, crossing the line in 23.60.
  • DISTANCE
    • Immanuel's time of 9:48.13 in the 3000m SC is the best in the time in the ODAC so far this season as well as the second-best time in EMU history for the event.
    • Jansen Miller finished 13th in the 5000-meter run, completing the 12.5-lap event in 15:58.17.
  • RELAYS
  • THROWS
    • Grant Leichty cracked the top 10 in the shot put with a mark of 12.04m (39'-6") to place ninth, and he set a new personal best of 32.38m (106'-3") in the javelin throw.
What's Next
The EMU Track & Field team will again compete at two separate meets next weekend. Most athletes will go across town to the Doc Jopson Invitational at Bridgewater College on Saturday, March 23. Another small group of athletes will travel a little further for the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., on Friday and Saturday, March 22-23.
