LEXINGTON, Va. – EMU Track & Field spent Friday and Saturday an hour south on I-81 at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va. All the event groups acquitted themselves well in a meet that featured Division I competition and several ODAC rivals.
On the men's side,
Bellamy Immanuel carried the banner for the Royals, racing his way to two runner-up finishes in the mile run and the 3000-meter run. The distance runners stood out for the EMU women as well, especially Lucy Unzicker, who ran a trio of PRs in the mile run (5:26.40), 3000m (10:55.37), and the 5000-meter run (19:17.29).

Highlights – Men
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- Immanuel's mile time of 4:19.95 was second only to Randolph's Cody Thompson and moved him up to fourth all-time on EMU's indoor list for the event.
- Immanuel followed that up with an 8:32.97 in the 3000m, which is just shy of the EMU school record time of 8:32.62 set by Alec Thibodeaux back in 2017.
- SPRINTS
- Damon Morgan led the men's sprinters, running a personal best time of 36.03 in the 300-meter dash, good for a 15th-place finish.
- JUMPS
- Da'Shawn Winters and Bryson Hunter placed eighth and ninth respectively in the long jump, rewriting the EMU top-10 list in the long jump in the process. Winter's best mark of 6.59m (21'-7.5") vaulted the first-year up to seventh all-time in school history in the indoor long jump. Hunter, meanwhile, rose up to a tie for ninth after landing in the sand pit at 6.54m (21'-5.5").
- THROWS
- Christian Schmidt reached 12.68m (41'-7.25") with his best throw in the shot put, finishing 22nd in the deep field.
Highlights – Women
- DISTANCE/MID-DISTANCE
- Unzicker's personal record times also improved her standings in the EMU all-time indoor lists, moving up to fifth in the mile, seventh in the 3000m, and 10th in the 5000m. Furthermore, Unzicker is now fifth in the ODAC this season in the 5000m.
- Jenna Weaver also stood out in the 5000m, finishing right behind Unzicker in seventh overall, completing the 25-lap race in 19:17.77.
- SPRINTS
- Angel David represented the Royals in the 300m, clocking in at a time of 44.99.
- JUMPS
- David did her best work of the weekend in the triple jump, placing seventh overall with a brand-new PR mark of 10.96m (35'-11.5"). David moved up one spot to fifth in EMU history in the indoor triple jump, and she sits third in the ODAC performance list this season.
- THROWS
- Senior Kate Landis led the Royal women's throwers for the third meet in a row, throwing 8.86m (29'-1") in the shot put.
What's Next
On Sunday, Feb. 4, the EMU Track & Field team will travel east on I-64 to the Richard Drake Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The first events of the day will begin at 9 a.m.
