HARRISONBURG, Va. – One meet was not enough for the EMU Men's Track & Field team this weekend, splitting the squad between two competitions in two states. The Royals' top sprinters and jumpers traveled to Ohio for the SPIRE Midwest Open at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio; meanwhile, athletes from a variety of event groups stayed in Virginia for the Finn Pincus Invitational in Salem, Va.

- SPRINTS
- Jowell Gonzalez-Santiago picked up right he left off last weekend. A first-year from nearby Broadway, Va., Gonzalez-Santiago finished third overall in the 400-meter dash, setting a new personal record time of 49.39 seconds. That performance put Gonzalez-Santiago in a tie for fourth on EMU's all-time indoor list for the 400m. Furthermore, Gonzalez-Santiago is currently 40th in Division III for the 400m.
- Damon Morgan also showed some speed in the Buckeye State, coming home fifth overall in the 200-meter dash in a new indoor PR of 22.31.
- JUMPS
- Brendan Apger broke into the top 10 in the triple jump, placing ninth and leaping 38'-7.75" (11.78m) on his best jump of the day.

- Gray Urglavitch led the group young EMU sprinters in the 60-meter dash, breaking the tape in a PR time of 7.58.
- JUMPS
- Micah Mast put forth a good effort in the pole vault, placing ninth by clearing a height of 12'-3.5" (3.75m).
- THROWS
- Christian Schmidt continued to anchor the EMU throws squad, finishing 16th with a season-best mark of 41'-1" (12.52m).
What's Next
After a weekend at separate meets, the EMU Track & Field team will reunite next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27 for the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va.
