Royals Drop Home Finale to Ferrum

HARRISONBURG, Va. – EMU wrapped up its 2023 home slate on Saturday, taking on Ferrum in a drizzly matchup.

The Panthers used five goals in the first and second quarters to take a 10-0 lead into the half and pick up a 14-3 win over the Royals.

Highlights

  • Ferrum picked up two quick goals, scoring within 13 seconds of each other, to take a 2-0 lead with just under 13 minutes in the first quarter. They added three more in the frame, but Cristal Narciso came up with three saves in the quarter to keep the game at 5-0. EMU's first shot of the game came at the 10:21 mark as Alex Palizzi got a shot off on goal, but it was saved by the Panthers keeper.
  • In the second, Narciso picked up three more saves to keep Ferrum off the board for over eight minutes. But with 6:46 left, FC picked up their sixth goal. Four more goals, including three in the final minute of the half, sent the Panthers to the locker room up 10-0.
  • The Royals defense clamped down in the third quarter, allowing just three goals. The Royals offense was able to pick up five shots in the third, including two on goal from Grace Hughes and Amber Bonds, but nothing found the back of the cage as FC took a 13-0 lead to the fourth.
  • EMU's shot finally started hitting paydirt in the fourth. After Ferrum scored an early goal, EMU responded with three of their own. Bonds scored her 10th goal of the season on a free-position shot with just over nine minutes left. Four minutes later, Courtney Crawford snaked through the Panthers defense and beat the keeper, for her 14th. Then, with the seconds counting down, Bonds struck gold again for EMU's third goal.

EMU will wrap up the 2023 season on Tuesday when they travel to Sweet Briar for a matchup against the Vixens. First draw is set for 7 pm.
