Bridgewater Bests EMU in Route 42 Rivalry

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Wednesday night was the latest installment of the Route 42 Rivalry, with women's lacrosse on tap at the EMU Turf Field.

BC outscored the Royals 8-0 over the second and third quarters en route to a 14-2 win.

Records: EMU 1-13, 1-7 ODAC | Bridgewater 9-6, 4-3 ODAC

Highlights

First Quarter
  • Just over a minute into the game, Bridgewater took a 1-0 lead after the Eagles won the opening draw, and took the shot block down to about15-20 seconds before Paige Overeem's shot beat Alyssa Hunter for a 1-0 lead.
  • After the Eagles added a second goal almost four minutes later, EMU was able to answer with one of their own. It was a Walker to Walker connection as Ava Walker passed to her sister Hailey Walker right in front of the net, and H. Walker's shot snuck past the BC keeper for a goal. But off the subsequent possession, BC pushed their lead back to two, and were able to extend it to three with another goal at the 3:54 mark, to lead 4-1 after one.
Second and Third Quarters
  • BC added five unanswered goals in the second quarter, but Hunter came up with four saves in the frame, including one on a free position shot, to help keep EMU in the game.
  • EMU's offense was able to get a couple shots on net in the second, one each from Shayleigh Sims and Joelle Blosser, but both were turned away by the Eagles keeper.
  • In the third, Bridgewater tallied three more goals while Hunter added three more saves, with the Eagles taking a 12-1 lead into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • After the Eagles added goal number 13, EMU was able to respond back. After a successful EMU clear attempt, Sims found A. Walker near the goal and Walker buried her shot by the new Bridgewater keeper for her 20th goal of the season.
  • Hunter picked up three more saves in the period, holding BC to just two goals in the final 15 minutes.
