Royals Down WildCats for Senior Day Win

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Saturday's game against Randolph was all about celebration.

EMU was celebrating their four seniors: Joelle Blosser, Liliana Guerrero, Taylor Parker and Shayleigh Sims. But on top of that, they were also celebrating their first win of the season. Sims scored four times, Ava Walker and Sarah Lynch each scored twice and EMU's defense held Randolph to just one two shots on goal and 35 turnovers, as EMU dominated the WildCats 14-1.

Records: EMU 1-10, 1-4 ODAC | Randolph 1-7, 1-1 ODAC

Highlights

First Quarter
  • Both offenses came out a bit slow to start the game, with EMU only picking up one shot on goal early on. But after a WildCat foul with just under 10 minutes left in the first, A. Walker's free position shot found the back of the next for a 1-0 EMU lead.
  • After a pair of shots from Hailey Walker sailed wide, H. Walker ended up with the ball again. But this time, her pass found Sims who buried her shot and put the Royals ahead 2-0. On the following draw, with EMU in control, Sims this time took a pass from Ava Schwartz and found pay dirt, picking up her second goal of the day and a 3-0 lead.
  • EMU would add three more goals in the period, as H. Walker and Kaylene Todd each got in on the action. The final goal came from Sims, notching a hat trick in the final minute of the first quarter and giving the Royals a 6-0 lead after one.
Second Quarter
  • Sims wasn't done, as made her senior day even more memorable with her fourth goal of the game at the 11:50 mark. Less than 50 second later, Schwartz notched her first goal of the game after a successful EMU clear attempt, putting EMU ahead by eight.
  • EMU's next goal came as a first, as Briana Cruz-Dempsey picked up a ground ball and then put a shot on goal that beat the keeper for her first collegiate goal, and a 9-0 EMU lead.
  • Goal number 10 came out of the stick of A. Walker, who took a pass from Guerrero and put the Royals up double-digits at the half.
Second Half
  • The first two goals of the second half were also firsts for Royals, as first-year Sarah Lynch scored her first and second collegiate goals: one from an assist by Kaylene Todd and one from Guerrero, who added her second assists of the day.
  • Alyssa Hunter, who was unchallenged up to this point, came up with her first save at 9:19 of the third quarter, preserving the shutout.
  • Another first-year, Taylor Linton, added her first collegiate goal at the 4:17 mark of the third, as EMU lead 13-0 through three.
  • Ari Smart wrapped up the scoring for EMU with a free position goal with just over seven minutes left in the game. Randolph was able to get on the board with a minute left, as they scored a free position goal with EMU having three players in the penalty box.
