LEXINGTON, Va. - The EMU track & field team, after just wrapping up indoor season last weekend, headed south to Washington and Lee this weekend to jumpstart the 2023 outdoor season at the W&L Track & Field Carnival.
Highlights - Women's Competition
- Kendra Oguamena had a great start to the season, picking up high finishes in both the 100m and 200m dash. In the 100m, her time of 12.90 seconds earned her fifth place in the 21-woman field. Then, in the 200m, she finished sixth with a time of 26.21.
- On the distance side Friday night, Jenna Weaver continued her strong track season. She finished 10th in the 1500m, crossing the finish line with a PR of 5:04.40. She followed that up with a 10,000 PR of 40:02.94, which put her in second.
- Right behind Weaver in the 10,000 was Lucy Unzicker. Her time of 41:27.21 was also a PR and nabbed her third.
Highlights - Men's Competition
- Alijah Johnson kicked things off on the men's side, picking up third place in the 100m dash, with a time of 11.17. Damon Morgan also secured a top-10 finish with a time of 11.40 seconds. That time earned him seventh overall in the 39-man field.
- The men's distance runners also showed well on Friday night. Bellamy Immanuel set a PR in the 1500m, finishing eighth with a time of 4:10.65.
- Jansen Miller was the top EMU finisher in the 10,000. His time of 33:03.11, which was a PR, got him second place. Teammate Clay Kauffman was two spots behind Miller, in fourth place, with a time of 34:05.11.
- Rounding out the men's races was the 4x400 relay of Immanuel, Johnson, Chris Kibler and Bryson Hunter. The quartet got fourth overall in 3:23.48.
What's Next
EMU will be back in action next Saturday when they make the short trip down to Bridgewater for the Doc Jopson Invite.
