Box Score 2 MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The EMU baseball team kicked off the 2023 season on Saturday, with a doubleheader against the Scots of Maryville College.
The Scots picked up a 15-4 victory in game one before taking game two, 7-2.

Highlights
- T3 – After Maryville took a 4-0 lead after two, the Royals battled back and tied things up in the third. With two outs, Logan Mason singled and then scored on a single and error off the bat of Ethan Spraker. Spraker ended up on third and came into score on a Nick Arnold single up the middle. With runners on first and second, Dylan Cassell reached on a fielder's choice error and Natty Solomon scored, followed by a wild pitch that scored Arnold, tying things at four.
- T5 – The Royals threatened again in the fifth, when Spraker singled and advanced to third on Arnold's second hit of the day. But the threat was snuffed out with a flyout to end the inning.
- T7 – EMU loaded the bases on a base hit and a pair of walks, but a strikeout ended the game and gave Maryville the shortened win.

Highlights
- B1 – The Scots took a 3-0 lead in the first with a walk, single and three-run homerun.
- T2 – EMU was able to cut into the lead after Cole Bashinski singled in Arnold, who had reached on an error to start the inning. A Jason Dwyer single loaded the bases but a flyout ended the threat.
- T5 – The Royals chased the Scots starter in the fifth, with Bashinski doubling to lead off and then coming around to score on Dwyer's single. Dwyer was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a double, but Mason followed that up with another hit, ending Timko's day. Spraker picked up another hit and Mason stole third putting runners on the corners, but a 5-4-3 double play got Maryville out of the inning.
- The Royals were able to get runners on base in both the sixth and seventh, but couldn't push anyone across. EMU's back-end relievers, Trey Deane and Keenan Fulwood, looked good in their EMU debuts. The first-years gave up just two hits, one walk while striking out three over three innings.
