Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Royals made their way down south a bit on Sunday for a rescheduled, non-conference contest against the Captains of Christopher Newport.
The Royals were able to push across six against the nationally-ranked opponent, but ultimately fell by a final tally of 17-6.
Highlights
- EMU hopped on the board in the top of the first with a double down the left field line off the bat of Blake Sargent, scoring Brett Lindsay who walked earlier in the inning to get the offense moving with two outs.
- With one away in the top of the fourth, Cole Bashinski worked a walk and quickly moved to second via a wild pitch from the Captains starter. Nick Arnold then knocked a single to left center to push Bashinski around with ease to score the second run of the day for EMU.
- In the top of the fifth, the Royals got something moving with one out to try to cut into the Captains' lead. Drew Petitt knocked a double down the left field line, quickly being scored in the next at-bat with a triple to right center off the bat of Jordan Jones. Jaylon Lee put together a strong at-bat, knocking a deep fly out to center field to score Jones easily with the sacrifice fly.
- Bashinski led off the top of the ninth with a walk and with one away, Matt Harding forced a Captains' error and Alex Gulisano knocked a single to load the bases up. Petitt singled to center field to push across one and Jones then worked a walk to push across another to round out the scoring on the day for EMU.

The Royals will next play host to CNU on this coming Tuesday, Apr. 5th in another non-conference game with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM.
