HARRISONBURG, Va. – EMU baseball wrapped up its 2022 home schedule Thursday, taking on Mary Baldwin for the second time this season.

The Royals used a four-run first inning and a three-run sixth inning en route to a 10-3 win over the Fighting Squirrels, to earn the season sweep. EMU now sits at 11-21, 6-12 ODAC.

Highlights

• Mary Baldwin was able to pick up a run in the first inning off EMU starter Daniel Hupart but Hupart picked up strikeout to end the inning and bring the Royals to the plate. Jordan Jones led off with a single and moved to third on an MBU error. After he stole third, he scored on Jaylon Lee's base hit to left. Lee then stole second and advanced to third on Brett Lindsay's sac fly. Ray Tricarico added an RBI, plating Lee before moving to second on Robert Guenther's base hit. A single by Gage Riddick and another MBU error, allowing Noah Dahloff to reach, plated two more and gave EMU a 4-1 lead after one.
• Tricarico picked up his second RBI in as many innings with a sac fly in the second, giving EMU a 5-1 cushion. The Fighting Squirrels added a run in the fifth but Hupart finished strong, setting Mary Baldwin down in order in the top of the sixth, for his longest outing of the season. EMU was able to plate three more in the sixth, using a pair of RBI from Lee, who came in to score on an error by the catcher.
• Tyler Bagent, Marcus Smith and Skylar Lacks finished the final three innings, holding Mary Baldwin hitless and giving up just two walks. Hupart picked up the win, moving to 2-3 on the season. He pitched 6.0 innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out six.
• Offensively, the Royals were led by Tricarico, who was 3-4 with a pair of RBI and run. Jones and Lee had two hits each and Lee had three RBI.

What's Next

EMU will wrap up its 2022 season on Saturday when they travel to Roanoke for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 pm.
