Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Diamond Royals grabbed a win at home on Wednesday behind strong at-bats and a stellar performance out of the bullpen.
The win puts EMU back into the winning column ahead of an important weekend ahead.
Highlights
- After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Royals took no time to even up the tally. After a double from Jaylon Lee, Brett Lindsay quickly scored him with a sharp single through the left side to put the score at 1-1 after an inning of play.
- After a shutdown inning from starter Karson Jennings, EMU took the lead in the bottom of the second. With Gage Riddick on third, Robert Guenther hit a deep fly into center, giving enough space for Riddick to score easily and give the Royals their first lead of the evening.
- After the Knights put up five in the top of the third, the Royals didn't falter and began their comeback attempt in the very next frame. After a Jordan Jones walk and quick steal of second, Lee knocked a grounder to second to move the him over. Lindsay was then hit by a pitch and initiated a strong first-and-third play, sacrificing himself at second so Jones could come across and cut into the Southern Virginia lead.
- In the same frame, after Ray Tricarico and Riddick each reached via a hit by pitch and walk, Natty Solomon came through, knocking a single to right and scoring two to keep the momentum building for the Royals.
- Jones put EMU within one with an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Ethan Spraker who singled earlier in the frame.
- Lee knocked the big blow in the bottom of the sixth, getting just enough under the ball to put it over the left field wall for his sixth home run of the season, plating three runs and putting the Royals back on top.
- EMU tacked on two more to give some insurance in the bottom of the seventh, via RBI knocks from Jones and Lee, pushing the score to its final tally of 11-7.
Standouts
- Jones - 3-4 with two RBI and a double.
- Lee - 2-5 with a home run and double, four RBI.
- Solomon - 3-4 with two RBI.
- Cooper Thomas - 3.0 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.
