Marlins Move Past Royals, 17-5

The lacrosse women played their second home game of the season on Wednesday, hosting Virginia Wesleyan in an ODAC contest. 

The Royals fell to the Marlins by a score of 17-5, falling to 0-3 early in the season. With the win, VWU improves their record to 2-7, 2-2 in conference play. 

The Marlins started the offense early, scoring their first goal in the first minute of play when Natalie Dunn found Camryn Gavula with an open shot, findind the back of the net for the first goal of the evening. Virginia Wesleyan continued pressing, scoring 11 unanswered goals in the first period of play. 

In the final seconds of the first half, Morgan Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) stormed down the field, finding an open look and darting a shot past the Marlins' goalie, notching the Royals' first goal of the day. 

EMU kicked off the scoring in the second half, with Meghan Hickey (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) moving past the Marlins and making the second goal for the Royals. 

In the second half, the Royals outshot the visiting Marlins 10-8. Tricarico added two more goals in the half with Juliana Ghally (Aldie, Va./John Champe) adding one to the total. 

The Royals are on the road for their next game, traveling to the University of Lynchburg to take on the Hornets on Saturday, Apr. 10 with a start time of 1:00pm.
