The Diamond Royals hosted the nationally-ranked Shenandoah Hornets on Tuesday, falling by a score of 10-2. 

With the loss, the Royals now sit at 6-12 on the year, with the Hornets improving to 23-7 overall, 16-4 in conference play.

The Hornets jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first, scoring one to kick off the game.

In the top of the third, Shenandoah pushed across three more, highlighted by a home run off the bat of Henry Delavergne.

After adding two more in the fourth and one more in the fifth, the Hornets found themselves with a comfortable 7-0 lead. 

John Judy (Shanks, W.V./Hampshire) knocked an RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth to notch the first run of the day for the Royals, slimming the lead to 7-1. The Hornets answered, adding two more in the top of the seventh. 

Judy knocked another single in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Ray Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View). 

Shenandoah added one more in the top of the ninth to push the score to its final tally, 10-2. 

Judy and Tricarico each had two hits on the day, with Billy Quinn also having a two-hit day. 

Gage Riddick (Gates County, N.C./Gates County) earned the loss on the mound for the Royals, throwing three innings and allowing four runs with five strikeouts. 

Calvin Pastel earned his fourth win of the year for the Hornets, throwing seven innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts. 

The Royals are back at home on Wednesday, Apr. 28, hosting Southern Virginia with a start time slated for 4:00pm.
